How the Controls Work

Every control sits on the head, where your hand rests naturally.

Shape the beam: A single smooth turn of the front ring takes you from fine print to a full broadsheet.

Set the brightness: The thumbwheel finds the exact level your eyes need, and the light remembers it every time you switch on.

Redirect: Move the light head with one hand without looking up from your book. The arm holds any angle you choose, will not drift, and is guaranteed for life.

Snooze: The light fades gradually and turns itself off, so if you fall asleep reading it takes care of itself.

Inside the light engine

A standard LED uses a blue chip that cannot reproduce the full visible spectrum. The wavelengths your eyes rely on most for reading are simply not there, so your brain fills in what is missing. That effort is one of the reasons reading feels harder by evening.

The HD Original uses a purple chip that reconstructs every wavelength of natural daylight. On the standard measure of colour rendering, where sunlight scores 100, the HD Original scores 98. A typical household LED rarely gets above 80.

Precision-ground lenses focus the light onto your reading rather than around the room, and constant-current drivers eliminate the invisible flicker that most LEDs produce and your eyes quietly respond to.
